Cephalophora

Amphora very often wound up at the bottom of the sea. Some adapted to their watery homes, with the small Cephalophora (a cephalopod-like marine amphora) being a perfect example of a highly adapted ceramic storage vessel that has evolved crawling scrolls for legs to clamber over the sea-bed, and multiplied handles that now serve to filter fish-spawn from the passing current.

After storms, their calcified remains often end up on the beaches of the Mediterranean, and here you can get some particularly well preserved specimens, your own little ornamental relic from the depths and wrecks of the high Roman seas...
